Cisco, NVIDIA & Supermicro – The New Power Trio of Rack-Scale AI

Cisco has expanded its Secure AI Factory collaboration with NVIDIA by bringing Supermicro into the mix, adding liquid-cooled, high-density compute to the AI infrastructure offering.

 As AI workloads scale from individual servers to multi-rack clusters, power, cooling, and networking are now as critical as raw compute performance. This three-way partnership directly addresses those demands.

 Supermicro brings liquid-cooled, high-density server designs

 

The combined stack targets organisations building AI infrastructure at rack scale, where denser configurations, faster interconnects, and advanced cooling are essential. Liquid cooling is central to this expansion, as higher-density hardware consumes more power and generates more heat.

 

Why it matters:

 The AI infrastructure market is shifting from piecemeal hardware procurement toward pre-integrated systems. Customers increasingly want validated bundles of compute, networking, storage, and security – not separate components to integrate themselves.

 This partnership also reflects broader market pressure. The cost of power, floor space, and cooling has become as significant as processor performance. Security remains another focus, with Cisco addressing data protection and access control across shared AI environments.

 Cisco's Chuck Robbins emphasised providing a "secure, scalable path" for AI factories. NVIDIA's Jensen Huang called rack-scale systems "essential" for evolving workloads. Supermicro's Charles Liang noted customers want "proven, efficient designs" at scale.
